TIME CAPSULE CLYDEBANK 1 B
A time capsule has been buried on the site of the new state of the art leisure centre in Clydebank to mark the 130 Anniversary of Clydebank becoming a Burgh.
Provost Douglas McAllister joined by pupils from three Clydebank schools attended the historic event today, Friday, 18 November 2016, to see the time capsule buried.
The time capsule included a range of memorabilia from 2016 including the school exam results and information and a photograph of this Year’s Citizen of the Year, a copy of the 130th logo designed by St Mary’s pupil, Mia Borthwick along with a handwritten note from the pupil, a bottle of the Provost’s whiskey and a silver engraved Quaich to mark the occasion.
Also buried is a limited edition Clydebank FC top which was donated by kind-hearted Jamestown Primary School pupil, Adam Daly. The strip features a commemorative embroidered badge and sleeve, with the phrase ‘We will restore to you the years’ to mark the 75 anniversary of the Blitz.
Keen footballer Adam is a goalkeeper for Clydebank FC 2005 and Rangers Elite Goalkeepers. He was Player of the Season 2015/16 at Clydebank FC and his grandad bought the strip at auction to record his achievement.
Adam, 11, said, “I was very happy to donate the top and add something personal to such a special occasion. The top was designed to mark the Clydebank Blitz, so I can’t think of a better place the top should be than in the heart of Clydebank.”
Provost, Douglas McAllister, said “What a great way to mark the 130 Anniversary of Clydebank becoming a Burgh. I am extremely proud of everyone who has played their part in marking this important day. I would especially like to thank all the school children who submitted great designs in our logo competition but especially to Mia for her creative design that captured everything we are proud of in Clydebank. I would also like to thank Adam for his very generous and thoughtful donation of the football top, which I know was very special to him.”
He added: “The time capsule is a wonderful way of showing our achievements in this special year and the items being buried today will be history for future residents to discover.
“Clydebank has a bright future ahead with the major developments at Queens Quay and I am very proud to be Provost in this important year for our town.”
Three commemorative trees were also planted as part of the celebrations.
