DA LIGHTSOME BUOY outside RNLI BUILDING LERWICK 1 B
The bronze sculpture is based on a giant fishing buoy which features text and imagery depicting the role the pelagic fishing industry plays in Shetland life and with the community at its heart.
It was unveiled by Callum Irvine (the youngest pelagic fisherman) from the Zephyr, and retired herring gutter Rosabelle Halcrow.
Engraved with images of fisherfolk and studded with quotes from the community, the huge spherical structure is very tactile and creates a lightsome feel.
The sculpture was commissioned to convey the continuity of the pelagic industry, the hardworking past, present and hopefully bright future.
